Carle Illinois College of Medicine Dean King Li has been honored with the highest award given by the Association of University Radiologists. The Gold Medal award from the AUR recognizes unusually distinguished service or contributions to the association, academic radiology, or the field of radiology in general.

In the organization’s tribute announcing the award, Dr. Li was hailed as a mentor for an entire generation of academic radiologists.

In addition to being a clinician and academician, Dean Li is an internationally acclaimed radiological researcher specializing in molecular imaging, an inventor, and an entrepreneur, with more than 20 patents either granted or pending. His experience includes leadership, research, clinical, educational, and entrepreneurial roles at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and Stanford University, as well as Wake Forest and Houston Methodist Hospital.

Since 2016, he has served as the inaugural dean of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, the world’s first engineering-based medical school. In early 2021, Dean Li announced his plans to retire when a search for a new dean is completed.

The Gold Medal award will be presented at the AUR Annual Meeting in early May.
