SLAM Microscopy was named one of the ten best microscopy innovations in 2019 by the journal Microscopy Today. Fourteen second-year students at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine participated in a PechaKucha event on July 19. These students shared first-hand experiences from their Discovery Learning course during this rapid-style, storytelling event in front of judges and a participating audience. As part of Carle Illinois’ innovative, active-learning curriculum, the Discovery Learning course is a three-week elective course which provides students the opportunity to choose between clinical immersion, research immersion, or global studies opportunities. The HHS-funded project “Using atlas-driven imaging for determining variations in velopharyngeal function among children with cleft palate and hypernasal speech” will receive $2 million over four years to investigate imaging techniques for cleft palate patients.
