Dr. King Li recognized with 2018 RRA Innovation and Leadership Award

Dr. King Li, inaugural dean of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, has been recognized by the Association of University Radiologists with the 2018 Radiology Research Alliance (RRA) Innovation and Leadership Award. This award recognizes a visionary who has made significant contributions to advancing radiology research, innovation, leadership, mentorship and growth of RRA.

Dean Li is a renowned researcher, educator, inventor and clinician in molecular imaging and radiology. He holds 16 patents, with another six pending, and four new invention disclosures since joining the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. He has a long track record of developing and commercializing intellectual property as well as setting up and administering large clinical and translational research programs.

“It is an honor to be recognized for research, innovation, and leadership, which are all qualities that we seek to cultivate in our future physician-innovators at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine,” said Li. “As we pioneer a new future for health technology, my hope is to continue to advance interdisciplinary innovation alongside the bright minds at Carle Illinois.”

Li studied physiology and biochemistry at the University of Toronto, earned a medical degree from Toronto and an MBA from San Jose State University. Prior to joining Carle Illinois as the inaugural dean, he was the senior associate dean at Wake Forest School of Medicine, where he was a driving force in developing a learning health care system in the institution.

Li was presented with this award at the annual banquet on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Orlando, Florida. The primary mission of the Radiology Research Alliance (RRA) is to encourage interdisciplinary research in radiology and the radiological sciences by helping departments establish and improve their research programs.
