In order to enter phase 1 family medicine clerkship, students must:

  • Pass Carle Illinois College of Medicine Phase 1 Gateway OSCE
  • Pass two of three NBME customized examinations
  • Pass Clinical Integration and Physical Diagnosis
  • Have no unresolved Unsatisfactory, Incomplete, Deferred, or Withdrawal grades in year 1 courses
  • Adhere to Carle Illinois College of Medicine standards of professionalism
  • Make adequate progress towards meeting the college’s educational program objectives

 

In order to enter phase 2 of the curriculum (major clinical year), students must:

  • Earn Satisfactory grade on all required phase 1 courses
    • Foundational Elements
    • Population Health
    • Cardiovascular
    • Respiratory
    • Renal
    • Clinical Neuroscience
    • Musculoskeletal
    • Digestion Nutrition + Metabolism
    • Endocrinology
    • Genitourinary
    • Women’s Health
    • Obstetrics
    • Hematology + Oncology
    • Infection + Immunity
    • Step 1 Review
  • Pass four of five NBME examinations
  • Complete United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1
    • If a student does not pass USMLE Step 1, they may complete the clerkship in which they are enrolled. However, they may not begin another clerkship until they pass USMLE Step 1.
  • Adhere to Carle Illinois College of Medicine standards of professionalism
  • Make adequate progress towards meeting the college’s educational program objectives

 

In order to enter phase 3 of the curriculum, students must:

  • Earn a satisfactory grade for all required phase 2 clerkships
    • Internal Medicine
    • Obstetrics + Gynecology
    • Surgery
    • Neurology
    • Psychiatry
    • Pediatrics
  • Earn Satisfactory grade in the family medicine student clinic course
  • Earn Satisfactory grade in the IDEA course
  • Earn Satisfactory grade for four weeks of elective time during phase 2 of the curriculum
  • Complete Carle Illinois College of Medicine phase 2 gateway OSCE
  • Adhere to Carle Illinois College of Medicine standards of professionalism
  • Make adequate progress towards meeting the college’s educational program objectives

 

In order to graduate, students must:

  • Complete all requirements listed above
  • Pass USMLE Step 1
  • Pass USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills
  • Pass USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge
  • Pass Carle Illinois College of Medicine Phase 2 Gateway OSCE
  • Earn Satisfactory grade for the phase 3 sub-internship
  • Earn Satisfactory grade in the career boot camp
  • Earn Satisfactory grade in 20 weeks of clinical electives across all three phases of the curriculum
    • The required sub-internship and career boot camp cannot be included in this count
  • Earn Satisfactory grade in eight weeks of open electives across all three phases of the curriculum
    • Open electives are clinical, research, or engineering electives
    • Required sub-internship and career boot camp cannot be included in this count
  • Complete and present the capstone project
  • Complete and present the data science project
  • Adhere to Carle Illinois College of Medicine standards of professionalism
  • Make adequate progress towards meeting the college’s educational program objectives

 

In order to graduate with thesis:

  • Student must complete all the requirements for graduation listed above
  • Students must complete and defend the MD thesis
