Members of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine’s Class of 2025 have set their sights changing the future of medicine as they officially become medical doctors on Saturday, May 10.
Forty new physician-innovators will receive their medical degrees, launching careers to advance medicine.
“I am incredibly proud of this group of talented individuals who will have tremendous impact in this next phase of their careers and on the patients and communities they will serve,” CI MED Dean Mark Cohen said.
“These bold individuals took a risk and followed their dreams, coming here during a global pandemic to a new engineering-based medical school… and have overcome these risks and challenges to excel and succeed in their development as physician-innovators,” Cohen said.
This is the fourth graduating class for the world’s first engineering-based college of medicine, which was created in 2015 as a partnership between the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Carle Health. The class of 2025 is the school’s first class to graduate since achieving full accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in March of 2025.
CI MED has become a leader in the worldwide movement to incorporate engineering and entrepreneurship principles into medical education, launching the Global Consortium on Innovation and Engineering in Medicine.
Convocation ceremonies for the Class of 2025 will be held at Foellinger Auditorium, 709 South Mathews Avenue, on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A livestream of the event will be available here. (Start time is 2 p.m. CT.)
Note: The Class of 2025 will be eligible to participate in the university-wide Illinois commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Memorial Stadium (start time is 9:30 a.m.).
