Carle Illinois College of Medicine student Annabelle Shaffer was featured on regional news programs spotlighting her team's research into sports-related concussions in young athletes. Shaffer and her team found significant differences in concussion symptoms in young female athletes following an injury, in comparison to young males. The research was aimed at establishing baseline values for high school-aged athletes. The findings may help high schools and clinicians make better decisions on when it's safe for an athlete to return to play. Shaffer was interviewed live on WGN-TV Chicago, WFLD-TV in Chicago, and KMOX Radio in St. Louis. The team's research findings will also be reported on CBS-2 TV in Chicago.
