Carle Illinois College of Medicine Dean Mark Cohen has been elected to serve a three-year term on the administrative board for the Association of American Medical Colleges' council of deans. The administrative body provides leadership for medical school deans across the country on issues affecting medical education and health care.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to be elected by my peers to serve the AAMC council of deans on the administrative board and to provide leadership, guidance, and representation on issues facing medical education and the future of health care,” Cohen said. “The work done by AAMC and its leadership are crucial to preparing the health care work force for the future including applications of AI and new technologies. It is a privilege to represent Carle Illinois and our missions as part of this important work,” he said.
AAMC represents accredited medical schools in the U.S. and Canada, more than 490 teaching hospitals and health systems, and dozens of academic societies.
According to the AAMC website, the Council of Deans (COD) is the only organization of its kind, convening deans of AAMC member medical schools to address issues affecting academic medicine and develop strategies to achieve excellence in medical education, research, and patient care.
Administrative board members are elected from the membership of the Council of Deans. The Administrative Board consists of three officers, nine members serving three-year terms, and three at-large members serving one-year terms.
Cohen will begin his three-year term on the administrative board in November 2025.
