Faculty IDEA-Innovation Exchange Session
Call for Submissions
You’re invited to participate in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine’s 23rd Annual Faculty IDEA- Innovation Exchange Session. At the CI MED’s new Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine Summit Workshop, we are hosting a session for faculty and students to share their innovation ideas for consultation and discussion with a global audience.
About the Exchange
The Global Consortium of Engineering and Medicine is a first-of-its-kind global initiative led by CI MED. It brings together experts from around the world who are working to revolutionize medicine through engineering-based solutions.
This is a unique opportunity to share your innovation ideas with an international audience including universities, corporations, and government agencies.
Faculty and Students are invited to submit their innovation ideas (maximum of two) for the opportunity to showcase their work at this conference and receive consultation from a global audience on how to take your idea forward.
Global IDEA Process: Faculty and Student Collaboration with the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering
Do you have a research idea but are stuck moving it forward? Invite your Global Colleagues to weigh in!
Through this expanded IDEA process, the entire Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering network unites to address critical healthcare issues. By drawing on the expertise, resources, and insights of a worldwide community, this approach not only enhances the innovation process but also cultivates a sustained, global commitment to advancing healthcare solutions that are adaptable and impactful across diverse regions and healthcare systems.
- During clinical rotations and ongoing research, faculty and students at CI MED identify pressing healthcare challenges or inefficiencies. To explore solutions, they partner with the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine—a network of international healthcare and engineering professionals dedicated to advancing innovation. Together, they aim to pinpoint problems that are impactful across various healthcare systems.
Consortium-Wide Consultation and Brainstorming
- In think tanks and brainstorming sessions facilitated by the consortium, members—representing various sectors of healthcare and engineering from around the globe—engage in cross-disciplinary discussions to explore the identified challenges.
- This collaborative environment fosters the sharing of unique perspectives, with each member offering insights shaped by their local healthcare systems and engineering practices. These sessions help refine problem definitions, uncover regional nuances, and align efforts toward impactful, adaptable solutions.
Solution Development with Consortium Collaboration
- With input from consortium members, teams are formed, comprising faculty, students, and international professionals from the network who each bring specialized knowledge and resources. Together, they begin developing prototypes that integrate engineering, clinical insights, and advanced technology, leveraging the expertise of the consortium’s global membership.
- Engineering and healthcare mentors from the consortium guide the solution design, applying structured innovation methodologies to ensure each prototype is feasible, cost-effective, and culturally adaptable across various healthcare settings.
Feedback and Iteration from the Global Consortium Network
- Throughout development, consortium members from different regions provide feedback through regular check-ins, sharing insights on how well the solution aligns with real-world conditions and requirements in their local environments.
- This iterative feedback loop allows the team to make informed adjustments to the prototype, with consortium members testing and refining it in diverse contexts. Faculty and student contributors work closely with consortium partners to implement improvements, ensuring the solution’s adaptability and scalability across healthcare systems worldwide.
Implementation and Global Reporting
- With support from the consortium, the solution is piloted in multiple countries, testing its practical applications in various settings and collecting data on its effectiveness. Faculty, students, and consortium professionals collaborate on data analysis, documenting outcomes, challenges, and insights unique to each region.
- Findings are shared within the consortium network, offering valuable insights to all members and encouraging further application and refinement of the solution in additional settings.
Ongoing Global Partnership and Knowledge Sharing
- The consortium fosters long-term partnerships, with faculty, students, and global members continuing to collaborate on extending, refining, and scaling the solution.
- The Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering serves as a platform for sharing outcomes widely, with members publishing research, presenting at international conferences, and exploring funding options for future projects. This collective network creates a repository of innovations that can be adapted and applied to tackle healthcare challenges around the world.
