Student Affairs & Academic Affairs Updates

Student Affairs

 

  • Student Affairs established weekly office hours, created a "Phase 2 check-in," added scheduling links to all Student Affairs email communications, and began weekly on-site staffing at Carle Forum

  • Implemented a required learning module for all clinical faculty to enhance understanding of MSPE letter purpose, and how to most appropriately highlight a student's strength in the student evaluation form.

  • Hired Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

  • Added Associate Director of Specialty Advising, a clinical lead for career advising plus three additional clinical career advisors, additional student support advisors and ADSA support staff

Career Advising

 

  • Redesigned the "Specialty Profiles" on the Intranet. Students can now learn more about each specialty, see a list of recommended electives courses for each specialty, and identify a specialist at Carle Health who can provide more direction.

  • Clinical career advisors were added with dedicated time to counsel students.

  • POD relaunch with assigned clinical and student support advisor primary contacts for each student POD.

  • Career Advising webpage updated with continued monitoring to add or revise information for students as appropriate.

Academic Affairs

 

  • Hired additional staff such as Medical Education Specialist, to be present at all instructional activities. This will allow there to be at least one staff member available for students to engage with.

  • Expanded and reorganized staffing in Academic Affairs with new leaders.

  • Added staff member presence at Carle Health for more accessibility to students at those locations.

Academic Advising & Counseling

 

  • Added an additional academic support specialist.

  • Launched tutoring webpage with resource information.

  • Developed an academic support webpage with academic support resources, academic support scheduling and more.

  • Increased student subscription with Uworld for Step 2 CK/Shelf Study from 180 days to 360 days.

  • Created time management modules for students to use as a resource.

  • A roadmap to success for USMLE Step 1 was developed and introduced to students.

Service Learning & Community

 

  • Expanded and enhanced Service-Learning opportunities led by the Community Partnerships Coordinator in Student Affairs.

  • Elective opportunities for community experiences are now available.

  • Service-Learning community resource information and workflows created and available to students on a newly created Service-Learning website.

  • Created a Service-Learning policy with information about service learning and community service, and opportunities for elective credit and recognition.
