CI MED Welcomes Class of 2027

Carle Illinois College of Medicine – the world’s first engineering-based medical school – has welcomed what will be its sixth class, set to graduate with MD degrees in 2027. This is the school’s largest class to date. New class members celebrated their White Coat ceremony on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Here are some quick facts about the new class:

  • Number of applicants:   almost 3,000
  • Class of 2027 demographics: 
    64 students from 18 different states

    Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington 

  • % of women and men: 50% women, 42% men, 8% unreported
  • Advanced degrees:  9.4% hold master's degrees
  • Average age of class: 24

With the addition of this class, CI MED’s total enrollment now stands at 222 students.
