Community, Organization, & Global Impact

Over the next 5 years, Carle Illinois will develop a collaborative approach to improving the health and well-being of the local, regional, and global population by aligning research, education, and clinical care initiatives.

Additionally, we will create synergies between the college’s research, education, and community outreach programs and goals, and the Carle Health mission of providing world‐class care to enhance the health of the populations it serves.

Key objectives we will focus on over the next 5 years include

Collaborate and lead with community, social, educational, governmental, and nongovernmental agencies to bridge the gap between medical, social, and structural determinants of health, and to reduce regional health care disparities.

 
Actions:
  • Develop and enhance service learning opportunities for Carle Illinois College of Medicine students.
  • Create service learning opportunities for medical students around community wellness to bridge the gap between social and structural determinants of health and reduce mental health disparities.
  • Develop student run free clinics that are operated by Carle Illinois College of Medicine students in conjunction with Carle faculty.
  • Establish a health policy opportunity for students.
  • Establish a policy clinic, partnering with the Law School and Siebel Center for Design.
  • Complete a DRAW documentary.
  • Hold an exhibit on black women/girls' humanity and joy.

  • Create supplemental revenue sources.
  • Create long-term sustainable core funding.
  • Hire a Director of Budget and Resource Planning.
  • Create a unit level budgeting process and reporting.

 
Actions:
  • Focus engagement and development of BMTS Specialized Faculty to create a better culture and academic promotional readiness.
  • Implement Clinical Science Department Section Heads.
  • Establish the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development ( OFAD).
  • Create and implement a faculty engagement support infrastructure, including the development of programs, resources, and services aimed at enhancing faculty engagement and support.
  • Develop and implement a series of faculty development workshops and seminars focused on enhancing pedagogical skills and promoting innovative teaching methods.
  • Implement a faculty self-assessment mechanism.

Strengthen the reputation and awareness of our college, and its mission and vision.

 
Actions:
  • Create an alumni engagement plan.
  • Create a new Carle Illinois College of Medicine website with an annual review each year.
  • Creation of new content to support growth of the website with an annual review of production and metrics.
  • Creation and implementation of a digital marketing campaign.
  • Creation and implementation of two large scale print mailings per year.
  • Creation and implementation of three video campaigns that support recruitment, reputation and brand awareness and curriculum.
  • Creation and implementation of 36 news articles per year.
  • Creation and implementation of 60 social media posts annually with tracked engagement.
  • Establishment and monitoring of a Carle Illinois College of Medicine crisis communication plan.
  • Creation and implementation of a marketing campaign to URiM annually.
  • Create and implement a donor-centric marketing campaign to support fundraising for Carle Illinois College of Medicine by the end of each year, with annual review and re-implementation.
  • Creation and implementation of a website and associated marketing materials for Carle Illinois College of Medicine's International Partnerships and Global Consortium.

Enhance communication and transparency in messaging and updates.

 
Actions:
  • Create and implement a Carle Illinois College of Medicine communication network plan to be reviewed and updated biannually.
  • Creation and implementation of monthly updates and communication of executive leadership team topics to all faculty and staff.

Create more equity and value for contributions to academic/educational missions.

 
Actions:
  • Better define college roles and align efforts, reporting and accountability.
  • Define faculty citizenship and implement guidelines.

 
Actions:
  • Develop and grow the STEM IL Nobel Project and other Carle Illinois College of Medicine community engaged programs to improve engagement of youth in STEM fields( especially medical careers). 
  • Create research opportunities for medical students through the Carle Illinois College of Medicine community engaged pathway programs.

Grow our education offerings to include international partnerships and new international programs.

 
Actions:
  • Explore 6-8 partnership opportunities for student exchange, research and clinical opportunities.
  • Conduct at lest six student exchanges between Carle Illinois College of Medicine and identified international partners.

Implement new wellness and recognition programs for faculty, staff and students to build community and work-satisfaction.

 
Actions:
  • Reassess charge and structure of the well being committee to include the promotion of a more diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where individuals fee that they belong and are valued.
  • Create collaboration between the well being committee and the student Thrive program.
  • Propose community building initiative strategies through a new subcommittee for community building and retention.
