Every year, the Illini 4000 embarks on a cross-country bike ride to raise money for cancer research. This year, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign administrators will take part in one portion of the cross-country trek to raise money for the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and to build awareness for the Illini 4000. On June 5, Chancellor Robert Jones, vice chancellor for advancement, Barry Benson, and University of Illinois Foundation president and CEO Jim Moore Jr. will ride into Champaign-Urbana to conclude their portion of the race.

“The impact of their (Illini 4000) efforts puts us one step closer to finding a solution to one of the world’s greatest challenges – a cure for cancer,” said Benson. “Our new Carle Illinois College of Medicine is also seeking to advance the fight against cancer while transforming the future of health care with the world’s first engineering-based college of medicine.”

Students representing the Illini 4000 presented the administrators with official cycling jerseys to welcome them as a part of the race, partnering with them in their efforts to raise money for cancer research.

“Having support for cancer research and leading-edge medical training is critical to advancing the breakthroughs we all hope for,” said Rashid Bashir, executive associate dean for the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. “Supporting our students directly supports the Carle Illinois College of Medicine’s efforts to catalyze health science research at Illinois.”

Join us on June 5 from 3-5 p.m. at the Beckman Auditorium for a reception to welcome these campus ambassadors and cancer research awareness advocates as they bike into Champaign-Urbana.
